SPASM Museum Guided Tour

This event has ended

Join a guided tour of one of the most unique medical museums in Australia to learn about healthcare in the 19th and 20th centuries. The SPASM Museum, housed in the old Gladesville Asylum, has nine display rooms illustrating the history and advances in healthcare through a curated collection of health memorabilia and artefacts.

Led by volunteer staff from the not-for-profit Society for Preservation of the Artefacts of Surgery and Medicine (SPASM) Museum, the tour will look at some of the 7000+ objects, documents and books donated since the collection was first established by Professor Ross Holland in the early 1960s.

Initially started as a teaching collection within the Department of Anaesthetics at Lidcombe Hospital it has been enhanced over time to include many other items no longer used in the practice of medicine, nursing, pharmacy, pathology, general practice, surgery and psychiatry.
